FAQs

WHO CAN VISIT OR BELONG TO DISPLACE?

At DISPLACE we’re all about inclusiveness. Anyone is welcome whether affected by physical disability or not, as long as you bring with you the mind-set that we’re here to increase employment and social inclusion among individuals affected by a physical disability, connecting many who have found themselves displaced from the workplace, seeking social connection or community involvement.  As we’re a community based, not-for-profit organisation, we will always find a place for you to become involved in some way, shape or form. We welcome your enquiry!

ARE YOU A BUSINESS INCUBATOR OR CO-SHARE WORK SPACE?

Great question! We’re not your typical business incubator or a co-share work space.

A business incubator is a company that, in return for payment – whether monthly or percentage share, helps develop start-up companies – where the idea’s already in place – by offering support such as training, office space, business networking and investor funding opportunities. They’re dedicated to supporting early-stage companies or start-ups through a combination of infrastructure and business development, helping them survive the early stages of growth when they’re most vulnerable. Business Incubators are great for business growth and the Australian economy. Queensland alone has some fantastic examples of successful and internationally recognised Incubators such as River City Labs.

DISPLACE is not a business incubator but an inaugurator of ideas for the greater good. Through collaboration, we build independent social enterprises for the greater good of the wider-community, creating flexible employment opportunities for individuals affected by physical disability. Operated by individuals affected by physical disability for individuals affected by physical disability, we work collaboratively as a whole to empower our community to reach their entrepreneurial potential and ultimately gain social and financial independence.

DISPLACE is solely dedicated to helping Australians affected by physical disability when they’re at their most vulnerable stages of self-growth, whether a desire for social connection, or a newly found thirst to investigate their entrepreneurial potential and how they can use this to support DISPLACE and the wider-community, while also working towards personal social and financial independence.

Through DISPLACE like-minded people form friendships and connections with the wider community, motivating one another to see entrepreneurship as a realistic road to employment . For many affected by physical disability, part-time or casual employment opportunities optimise the flexibility required to better manage their condition or situation.

Our aim is to increase employment and social inclusion among individuals affected by physical disability, connecting many who have found themselves displaced from the workplace, seeking social connection and community involvement. Our ultimate goal is for our community to find financial independence through recognising their entrepreneurial potential and using it for the greater good, creating employment opportunities for those directly affected by physical disability.

For some who wish to pursue their own independent venture, DISPLACE may not necessarily be the right path. If this is the case, we will support them in their venture and help source a business incubator or start-up which can help their business become a reality.
